2-ethylhexyl acrylate is an acrylate monomer with the formula of CH2=CHCOOC8H17 (C11H20O2). 2-Ehtlyhexyl Acrylate has the characteristic of liquid, colorless, and has an unpleasant acrylic odor. 2-EHA is not soluble in water but soluble in alcohols and ethers. 2 ethylhexyl acrylate is not a very flammable liquid with a flashpoint between 75 – 90° C. Manufacturing Process 2-ethyl acrylate is produced by going through the process of combining 2-ethylhexanol and an acrylic acid in a dehydraisation process that is catalyzed by sulfuric acid(performed in batch reactors with continuous distillation section). Using solid catalysts can help reduce the drawbacks of this process such as corrosion and spillage of the spent acid.
